The Online Tournament – The Future
We all play games from time to time and with the invention of devices like smartphones and iPads more people than ever play games. Some of you might even play games like scrabble or chess against other people online and this is often what we refer to as competitive gaming when it comes to the online world. Recently, the hobby of gaming has been getting more mainstream attention and you need only turn on the television or consult your satellite tv FAQ to find a channel or television program that proves the point: Spike TV Video Game Awards, Tokyo Game Show, etc.
Online gaming tournaments are pretty straight forward and have enjoyed some much needed attention. Basically any franchise with critically acclaimed multiplayer, such as HALO, Starcraft II, Battlefield, is used and players from all over the country, sometimes the world, pair off against each other for supremacy. Some of these tournaments even offer cash prizes to the victor and a few exemplary players have even made careers out of the events.
While online tournaments may never be as popular as football or baseball games, one cannot deny that gaming has become more prevalent in our culture. As the hobby continues to permeate our way of life, we may see even more of the online tournament on our televisions across the country.
