Sorry, Rolling Stone is just as bad as big record labels, and paid for by the same people. Created hype is still hype. If you're using anything in a popular culture magazine to determine who is the best guitarist, so many AMAZING guitarists will be alienated. And you must also take into account there are several different aspects to being a guitarist, and on top of that, endless genres of music which include the instrument, and on top of that ask yourself who has millions and millions of advertising dollars behind their name. It's just wrong to make a list like that in my opinion. They should make a list like "most monetarily successful guitarists of all time". That would be a MUCH more quantifiable list.
That's a big insight into why I have such varying influences musically. I despise having musical conversations with people who only listen to radio music. I just hope one day people start to realize they are being spoonfed music, and the artists you hear on the radio are only there because they are marketable. Doesn't mean nobody on the radio is talented, no way in hell is that the case (I would say 1 in 10 bands may have some talent in modern pop-rock), just means that to me these music scenes you see, the culture that is created along with it, is all just a sham. It's so fake. People think that they should change the way they dress and act because of the music they are listening to. Conformity is marketed. Music they got into as the pockets of radio stations around the nation and MTV's pockets just got fatter. A completely created culture. If you think a majority of people aren't ignorant to what music is out there, tell me you haven't see a "which is better, rap or rock" conversation. What a joke.
Ha, they have Jack White ranked 17th and Pete Townshend ranked 50th!!!! That's just wrong, I no longer have any respect for Rolling Stone.
You just now lost respect for Rolling Stone? They've been a joke for years. In the immortal words of Kurt Cobain's t-shirt, "Corporate Magazines Still Suck." You didn't even notice the most disgraceful part of that list: David Gilmour at #82. What a joke.

Anywho, hows the NIN album? It came out April 17 (correct?) but I havent heard anyone say anything about it.
I noticed that Gilmour was 82, Angus Young is way back the list too... The most amazing fuck up is that they put Eddie Van Halen at like 70 and Alex Lifeson isn't even on the damn list! I'd like to know what they based that on.
I've never read a Rolling Stone so there was nothing for me to disrespect. I hardly ever listen to new "popular" music, certainly nothing that would ever be in there. I just remember I bought one in high school because pictures of Britney Spears were in it. haha

Uhh its so annoying going to a school, majority rich white kids, who "like" rap. They only like the rap they hear on the radio and they only like it cuz its on the radio. I despise the radio, its a place for 1 song to play for a week and then get shoved away cuz everyone realizes it sucks. Then another crap song comes in and it gets played for a week straight. Its a cycle of shit.

Totally agreed bemo everyone one in this area is a white rich kid who thinks they are from "the ghetto", everyday its so god damn annoying, YOUR WHITE ACCEPT IT. Im one of the few rockers at my school, we're far and inbetween in this area
That's who I think the greatest guitarist is... I know I'll have some nay sayers, but Page is a god. Clapton and Hendrix are next, but Jimmy Page is the fucking man! Not to mention he was in one of the most successful bands of all time!
Greatest Rock song of all time.... Page on the dual lead.

I thought that was pretty bad, actually, lol. I not a big fan of the random note pounding, "shredding" solos like that. Reminds me of an 80's poppy metal hair band. That's just me though.
