I'm adding all of that to my core2 E4300 and GeForce 7900gs. I'm going to try to get my cpu steady at 3ghz, I ordered some Arctic Silver 5 to help with temps for overclocking.
wow, that's some of the lowest-priced equipment i've seen. i might get that memory, is it a good choice? just got a XFX 8800 GTS 320mb myself from newegg. best thing that ever happened to my computer.
I will let you know once I've got everything up and running.
the nForce 650i Ultra mobo's perform just as well as the 680i's, and overclock well too. The only huge difference is the 650i only has one pci-e slot, compared to the 2 for sli in the 680i. I don't use sli and probably never will, so it would be ridiculous for me to spend twice as much for features I wouldn't even use.
Stuff came yesterday, just waiting to see when our 9th rangers match is before i put it together. Since the match will probably be on Sunday I'l probably throw it all together on Friday. I got a new HD im using so if something goes wrong I can still put my current pc back together.
Installed everything, but im having cpu temperature problems again. I used arctic silver 5 and I made 100% sure that the heatsink is seated properly. I updated the bios and the temps still read the same.
I reapplied some arctic silver 5 and it helped a little bit, my idle temp is around 40, I ran orthos(stress tester) for about 5 minutes and it went up to 60. I'm guessing the heatsink/fan is the problem, I should probably get an aftermarket one.
I'm probably just going to buy an aftermarket cooler, untill then i took my old parts and threw a pc together which i am currently on (amd64 3200, geforce 6600 256mb, 2gb ram) which is good enough to run dods on medium settings.
load temps should only be like 10 degrees higher, mine goes into the 60's from 40ish idle. Any time i do something somewhat cpu extensive the temp jumps up rapidly. I just played on my other comp i get decent frames so i should be good for matches until i get a new cooler.
Are you overclocking? For now, I'll assume you're not. Pull the fan off the CPU and remove all thermal compound including whatever is left of the original thermal pad. Use alcohol on a lint free cloth. Then remove the paste from the CPU as well also using alcohol. Reinstall your CPU then apply an X on your CPU with the arctic silver with the lines being no wider than a grain of rice. Reseat you fan and be sure all binding posts are fully inserted in there respective holders. They are VERY stubborn and it can really help to put some styrofoam under a static bag under your motherboard while pushing on the binding posts to be sure you can apply the full force required to get them to seat properly. Once everything is reassembled, fire it up and go in to BIOS and verify that there are no quiet mode fan settings enabled. Also make sure all your voltage settings are set to their default levels. Let me know how you make out.
Yeah, that mother board (assuming it has the same settings as my 680i) has the fans set to low and only fire up if the CPU goes over 50 degrees. I had to change mine and it made a notable difference in temps as well as noise, but it's not that loud. That may very well be your problem. Set your chipset fan to high as well, if your MoBo has one.
Speaking of the thermal paste, I think I should reapply mine. I put way more than what you said to put on, Geek.
