HD-DVD obituary a matter of days, not weeks

i'm glad to see that we're down to one format and it's the one that i probably would have bought anyway (PS3 will come to me as soon as MGS4 is out). although the big problem now is getting everybody to switch to the format. last i heard, HD sales were still 2% or something of all DVD sales. and so to do that, they need to bring down prices on HDTV's so it's worth it for people to upgrade to Bluray instead of normal DVD.

Now I know how all those Betamax people felt in the 80's.

Bluray players are expensive.

Toshiba officially announced the demise of the format today. At last, we have a winner. Now that the format war is over, I imagine players will come down as people will start buying them now that a winner has been declared. Glad I didn't jump on the screaming deals they've had on the players over the last month. I kinda thought it may be a sign of what was to come. Wink

ps3 is not only the cheapest blu ray player, but also the most future proof player since the bluray standard is not set in stone. and also just the best player (other players have issue's with compatibility and speed).

I heard about this in my business class today. I feel sorry for anyone who bought one of these.

There are several players available for the same price as the PS3, but why pay the same money for less product? That doesn't count the drives you can get for your PC which are down around 200 bones now. Right now, if you're going Blu Ray, the PS3 is the way to go. Online firmware updates FTW!

http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3304908&sku=T24-9148&SRCCODE=COMEM011 heres a hell of a deal on a hd player with 7 free hd movies. I know it's dead but you can still use it as a up converting dvd player. I'm sure we will see more deals like this.
