Metallica - Death MagneticPosted:

So, has anyone else been listening to this? I've had it for a couple days and I have to be honest, I pleasantly surprised. It's actually pretty damn good. I'll be buying the CD this weekend in all likelihood. The timing seems a little off to me, but everyone I've said that to had no clue wtf I was talking about so who knows. They got away from the overproduced sound that started with The Black Album and have gone back to their earlier style IMO. Obviously, it ain't Puppets, but it's actually Metallica.
i want to listen to it, but have only heard like the one song off of youtube....
but yeah, what i heard from a interview with Kirk Hammet is "it's like Justice but not as progressive" (or something to that effect). to me, that's really contradictory b/c Justice being so progressive is what i love about it, but i guess i'll have to wait and see how the new one really is.
anyone want to send it to me? i can't really do any P2P on my current internet in Germany... or i can just wait 2 weeks til i get home.

ok got it , and yes it is good , but I think that if this was recorded in the 80's it would be even better...I know they tried the small room with baffles to record this but just doesn't have that same feel. But this is the best they have put out in a long time.
ok after 2 listen throughs... i definitely like it. needless to say, it's a hell of a lot better than st. anger. overall, some of the songs sound a little "bloated". they have some simple riffs with too many repetitions that could have been shortened a bit.... but then again maybe i listen to way too much progressive stuff....
fave tracks:
"that was just your life"
second half of "the day that never comes" (how is the first half and second half related really? poor bridge i think, but good song still)
"all nightmare long"
PS. the instrumental = not so good. my favorite instrumental i think is still "stream of consciousness" off of dream theater's train of thought album. sorry to go off topic here... =P

No no no, best instrumental = Orion off of Puppets. Get it right noob!
even in orion vs ktulu... ktulu still wins in my book.
Ktulu certainly is great, but something about Orion has always resonated with me. It's one of the few insturmental songs over the years that I could actually "feel" on some level.
